Other K&K, Austria - August 2016

Recommended Posts

Evening All!

This beauty was one of the places we visited on a recent trip around europe, and what a trip it was! 9 days, 7 countries and over 4,500 miles! It was certainly a trip to remember, from camping in the alps under thousands of stars one one of the clearest nights i've ever seen, to being inches from becoming stranded in czech in the middle of the night. We met some strange, somewhat crazy and definitely unique characters on our travels, from a tree growing hippie to a lovely old man taking care of a power station. It was so draining - getting by on minimal sleep, but an array of mcdonalds breakfasts, takeaways and cheep beer certainly helped!

This was a beautiful place we done in austria, but i didn't get my hopes up too much - i'd heard it was sealed but we were passing so gave it a go anyway. Persistence paid off and after a while of searching we found a way in, and in the middle of a sunny sunday afternoon we slipped in one by one, attempting to get in undetected by the many passing by. A little eager to get in, bags were bundled through the hole and into the basement - not realising the floor had been removed, so it soon turned into a game of balance on the metal framework

Once inside the scale of the place hit me, especially the grandeur of the staircases - definitely one of my favourite to date. We spent a good couple of hours here, sweltering in the heat before hitting the road to my friends house. We arrived just as the sun was setting, and my what a beautiful view he has. He told me he had a wine cellar, but i didnt realise the size until i stepped down and saw a monumental amount of alcohol. we certainly made a small dent in that, along with loads of pizza and a fire under the stars.

DeScent drowned tragically (is there any other way) in a Brisbane drain as a result of a flash flood.

Family holiday, got a day to myself with the camera
This place was huge and I know I only covered 40% ish, the site covers a few miles and in 35 degree heat I felt I had done enough in 3 hours, but maybe a return next year to cover the other bits.
I honestly stripped this down from 70+ plus shots

There was almost a higher ranking living area once passed the main gate

the only real graffiti I saw

      old statue knocked down

Outdoor bath for higher ranking personal

      Another checkpoint ?

A very hot and long road to the rest of the base

      random buildings

      entrance to an underground area

      more underground entrances

      pitch black

      led to this

      directly beneath this

Then I found the long tunnel !!!

which became this, gotta say, I`m not a fan of underground and this was maybe 200m long with a few off shoots to the cliff sides

      up top I found this

then the long walk back to the car
      Cheers

Havent posted for what seems an eternity !
So this was a trip to Bulgaria that 7 of us went on in March.
Wont go into the history as its out there
Small copy and paste from wiki
Buzludzha is a historical peak in the Central Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria and is 1441 metres high (4728 ft). In 1868 it was the place of the final battle between Bulgarian rebels led by Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha and the Ottoman Empire.
The Buzludzha Monument on the peak was built by the Bulgarian communist regime to commemorate the events in 1891 when the socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organised socialist movement with the founding of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, a fore-runner of the Bulgarian Communist Party. The Monument was opened in 1981.No longer maintained by the Bulgarian government, it has fallen into disuse.
The monument was built at a cost of 14 186 000 leva.
Buzludzha can be reached by two side roads from the Shipka Pass either a 16 km (10 mi) road from Kazanlak or a 12 km (7 mi) road coming north from Gabrovo.
Now the monument is abandoned and vandalised. As the roof of the building is heavily damaged, the main entrance of the building has been closed for the public. (cough cough)
So as said 7 of us went, 2 traveled from Glasgow (got knows why Nikon came up here to fly down to Stansted lol) met another 4 in Stansted then our final party member met us in Plovdiv after travelling from Belgium.
So many laughs had on this trip, ranging from 1 party member going missing at night, after getting bladdered and trying 4x4`s in the pitch black, to absolute nonsense conversations after too much cheap booze.
For me it was what a trip is all about, fun fun fun and seeing and shooting a pretty cool place.
We spent 3 days/2 nights at the base of the monument, personally only went up twice, but I know others done it many times at all times of the day and night.
Anyways, mixed bag, in the order they were shot

Not happy up here !!! 200ft pitch black climb then 100ft on see-thru ladders, anyone who knows me knows I dont do heights !!
Pretty chuffed I got to the top tbh, but bob hope I was going out on the ledge !!

      cheers
