Other Hotel Silver Swan, Austria - August 2016

Recommended Posts

Situated half way up a mountain in a sleep little Austrian village, we arrived here after a rather long drive through the day. We planned to sleep inside for the night, but upon a quick scout round we couldn't find a way in. We mooched back to the car and got the tents, and found a flatish bit of grass to set up on. I was about to call it a night until i looked up - one of the most beautiful skies i'd ever seen. After a rather short debate we trooped back to the car to get the cameras - along with beers and snacks and set up for some shots. Unfortunately the cloud started to roll in, and we were greeted with a rather beautiful thunderstorm over the mountains in the distance. In hindsight, i'm glad we didn't get in at first, because it was a truly enjoyable night sitting around with a few beers, chatting and taking photos. This was taken from outside my tent - and what a beautiful view we woke up to the next morning.

After a rather poor nights sleep - mostly down to the fact we were pitched on a hill and kept sliding down in our tent, we packed up and before we left had another look round. Thankfully we found an open window - one we'd missed in the dark, so retreating to the car once again to get our cameras before making our way inside. It seems the local vandals have hit this place too - with some awful graff in places but i avoided photographing these bits mostly. Overall it was a rather pleasant explore, with some beautiful views I won't be forgetting any time soon.

Looks like a very nice place, and you've captured it very well. My favorits of the interiors are 1, 3 & 5. And of course the fantastic sky!

Family holiday, got a day to myself with the camera
This place was huge and I know I only covered 40% ish, the site covers a few miles and in 35 degree heat I felt I had done enough in 3 hours, but maybe a return next year to cover the other bits.
I honestly stripped this down from 70+ plus shots

There was almost a higher ranking living area once passed the main gate

the only real graffiti I saw

      old statue knocked down

Outdoor bath for higher ranking personal

      Another checkpoint ?

A very hot and long road to the rest of the base

      random buildings

      entrance to an underground area

      more underground entrances

      pitch black

      led to this

      directly beneath this

Then I found the long tunnel !!!

which became this, gotta say, I`m not a fan of underground and this was maybe 200m long with a few off shoots to the cliff sides

      up top I found this

then the long walk back to the car
      Cheers

Havent posted for what seems an eternity !
So this was a trip to Bulgaria that 7 of us went on in March.
Wont go into the history as its out there
Small copy and paste from wiki
Buzludzha is a historical peak in the Central Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria and is 1441 metres high (4728 ft). In 1868 it was the place of the final battle between Bulgarian rebels led by Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha and the Ottoman Empire.
The Buzludzha Monument on the peak was built by the Bulgarian communist regime to commemorate the events in 1891 when the socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organised socialist movement with the founding of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, a fore-runner of the Bulgarian Communist Party. The Monument was opened in 1981.No longer maintained by the Bulgarian government, it has fallen into disuse.
The monument was built at a cost of 14 186 000 leva.
Buzludzha can be reached by two side roads from the Shipka Pass either a 16 km (10 mi) road from Kazanlak or a 12 km (7 mi) road coming north from Gabrovo.
Now the monument is abandoned and vandalised. As the roof of the building is heavily damaged, the main entrance of the building has been closed for the public. (cough cough)
So as said 7 of us went, 2 traveled from Glasgow (got knows why Nikon came up here to fly down to Stansted lol) met another 4 in Stansted then our final party member met us in Plovdiv after travelling from Belgium.
So many laughs had on this trip, ranging from 1 party member going missing at night, after getting bladdered and trying 4x4`s in the pitch black, to absolute nonsense conversations after too much cheap booze.
For me it was what a trip is all about, fun fun fun and seeing and shooting a pretty cool place.
We spent 3 days/2 nights at the base of the monument, personally only went up twice, but I know others done it many times at all times of the day and night.
Anyways, mixed bag, in the order they were shot

Not happy up here !!! 200ft pitch black climb then 100ft on see-thru ladders, anyone who knows me knows I dont do heights !!
Pretty chuffed I got to the top tbh, but bob hope I was going out on the ledge !!

      cheers
