Canterbury Gas Holder 2014-2015

The now sadly demolished Canterbury Gas Holder. Can't find much about the History I'm afraid although I did hear from a friend that it was demolished to prevent it gaining listed status.

It's a shame to have seen it disappear from Canterbury's skyline. 

I was lucky enough to spot Maniacs great report on it that showed internals of the gas holder and described the preparations for demolition taking place, this allowed me to get in a few more times before they started taking it down and see the inside of it!  My internal shots turned out pretty grim because of using a relatively dim torch in such a large space.

2014, 

The local carpet shop had a skip full of thick carpet just around the corner but live and learn I suppose,

Yeah that palisade is no fun, however only one of you needed to go over, you can then open the gate ;-) 

Shame this place went really, but it was at the end of the day just a redundant piece of industry. I always wanted to buy it and live in it, like in the film shooting fish. (You're going to tell me you've never seen that film now aren't you!)

I should have checked the gate more carefully! I'll add it to my list of films to see.

Good you got a record of the place before it disappeared for good. Looks like a bit of a nut-shredder that palisade/razor wire combo.  :shock:

Nice one mate,must admit the top was bouncy and i wasnt having that much fun getting up the top over the defences on the stairs,or had someone sorted that out when you visited?

Yehr it had been sorted out, which defiantly made things a lot easier!

Love gas holders and it's a real shame they're demolishing them. They have such majestic presence and brighten up the skyline. Glad you got to see it.

You might be thinking of a different one actually, this one wasn't too bad with only one fence to get over. The one in Gillingham on the other had was ridiculous with 3 of the buggers!
