The Explore

After spending most of the night in Talgarth, Session9 and myself set off further south in search of some coke :) We’ve now been awake for around 30 hours, multiple cans of Monster have already been consumed to help with the drive down. Arrived at midday-ish, made our access and met up with Southside UE and Landie Man. Good to catch up with you Dan and nice to meet you Harry (y)

We spent a few hours sampling the industrial decay of this massive site, including the sphincter-twitching ascent up the side-less walkways to the main “pulveriser†until our visit was cut short by a security guard with a mahooosive alsatian. The initial attempt at hiding and the bust itself was all captured in 1080p from Southsides and LM’s Go-pro’s, and i can’t wait to see the footage. All in all a cracking day out with top company. I think we pretty much only scratched the surface of this place but i hope you enjoy the pics anyway.

The History

This huge abandoned site was constructed in 1958 following the establishment of local mines and collieries in the previous 100 years.

The majority of the low sulphur high quality coal which was mined at the nearby CWM colliery was processed here producing high grade coke suitable for foundry use. The colliery was closed in 1986 but the coke works continued to function until 2002 when the doors were closed for the final time.

The site is to be transformed in a major regeneration programme after developers secured outline planning approval. The project will see the demolition of Cwm Coking works and over £17million worth of site remediation. There will also be landscape restoration, the development of up to 851 homes, a primary school, sports facilities and further public open space.

Love it there, never got round to going through my pics from there yet as I took so many. We met the alsatian too, very friendly once he's caught you, security was a total prick though and called the police saying we'd broken in.... Waste of everyone's time as we scarpered before he'd even got off the phone to them :D

Cool pics. I think I'm not so good with heights tho. No.13 is a brilliant shot, I love how far you can see in the distance. Don't think I've got the guts to climb that high, or if I do I'll freeze and get stuck up there.

Was going to go here next time I'm in Wales, either this weekend or 3 weeks time.

Cheers Raz mate, yeah it's been on my list to do for a while. It was nice to see the place but unfortunate that it was cut short as i would've liked a few more shots.

Its a great location, some cool shots there mate (y)
Cheers Lee, really liked the enormity of this place. Could've spent a bit longer here if it weren't for the doggie :(

Not sure if it was the same secca man we met but he did threaten to call the fuzz. He told us not to post the pictures online as it just attracts other people to visit. Also he told us a story about some tower collapsing and that if we were there then we could've died etc.... yeah ok haha

Thanks Trav, believe me i'm exactly the same mate lol. Dan will agree that on the ascent we egged each other on to get to the top. Had i been alone i might've done a u-turn haha

blimey. That was unlucky - I live about 30 miles away and been here 3 times - never seen security once.

Great shots dude

Cheers lads (y)

Yeah we think we got bubbled by a family that were kicking a ball around just outside the site. I missed a good bit but i'm glad to get the high bit done :)
