History (shamelessly stolen from a local newspaper)

Dobroyd Mills was built in 1829 and fine cloth manufacturer Dobroyd Ltd was founded at the mill in 1919.

The mill closed in 1974, but was re-opened in 1976 under John Woodhead Ltd spinners.

It currently houses several businesses including a classic car restoration firm.

The visit

The site's partially live, there's ongoing demolition work during the week & a shiny new gate with pointy bits.  All the nice mill machinery has been stripped out & is in a sealed room packed up for shipping, so no loom porn for you :(

Having said that though it's a nice wander, there are some very nice parts & some good original touches, & I'm sure real industry fans would get a lot more out of this place than I did.

On with the pics...

Cheers guys, yeah that room is what made me want to check the place out, though my favourite find on the day was the pair of ww2 era dried milk ration tins :)

Seen this reappearing lately on various forums, really nice collection of images there Steve (y)

I've moved to NP, due to the liveness of that car workshop etc, and the general live businesses which surround it. It's had a while in NP though now. @-Raz- chucked on the first report in May 2015 and i visited the weekend after. Seems to have been preserved nicely :)

Me too mate @-Raz-, couldn't believe it was nearly two years ago. I remember finding a really awkward way in that day only to find a really easy way when i was already inside lol  :?
