Here we are at the end of a year - and indeed decade - and time to briefly reflect. This is my favourite pic because of the thoughts and feelings it reminds me of. I also like the contrast with the colours of the sunset with the 'ugly' shapes of abandoned industry.

It was taken as I was leaving Winnington during the heatwave this summer. I had finally cracked the control room and most of the other areas of interest. I had been researching and planning to visit for some time, did 2 reccies, 1 visit which was aborted at the access point, and one which ended with being escorted off site by security.

The sense of achievement was amazing and just for a brief few minutes everything was perfect.

I'll have to go with Snibston mine. Literally a stones throw away from me.
They did an open day this year to show off their new plans for the site.
Yes it was a permission visit, but regardless it was a big deal for me. I had wanted to get in so badly for so long, and to make it even better my 5 year old joined me. That alone was awesome.
This was as we were approaching the main site, we accessed everything that was open and was exactly as I was hoping fo

I can't quite work out why I like it so much. I've taken some better pics in the year but there's something out the shot I really like. So much so that I went and got a print of it.
For a bit of context I took this shot 2-3 days after the hospital closed and whilst taking this we had to lock ourselves in here as workers and security were removing paper work from nearby. It's also the only shot of this place where the blue tape is still on the light, covering a flickering LED panel, because a day or so after someone else removed it. They're also the first ALM Maquet H lights I have encountered.

Tough choice! Many of my photos could easily be my favourite because of the memories they hold for me personally, but might not be all that appealing to others. Other photos are maybe more striking, but without the context that a favourite should have. This one, however, stands out for me because it holds both of those characteristics. This trip to Ireland was really fun, and we saw many nice places. This location in particular was the former residence of Arthur Guinness, the man who established, you guessed it, Guinness! It was a last minute addition to the route and turned out to be a fantastic place, topping off the trip nicely.

A difficult decision. There were so many great trips and places last year, such as a nice exploration trip with @The_Raw to Italy.
However, my 13th trip to Romania for 14 days in the summer of 2019 was particularly great, with visiting an imposing old mausoleum and several abandoned mansions. I cannot explain exactly why, but this country has somehow cast a spell over me. This is also where the photo was taken, an abandoned castle in the north of Transylvania, that I discovered many years ago. It was already my third attempt to visit it, this time I finally could manage to get inside. It was another very adventurous trip - inclusive a flat tire and even my exhaust has fallen off, because of bad dirt roads... ;) But despite that it was a great time there again. That's why I chose this photo.

This is one of my favourite images of the year. Taken on the roof of an unfinished construction project in Macau, China, it was one of the last days of a long trip to Hong Kong. We spotted this skeleton of a building about 20 storeys high by chance and just went for it. Turned out to have some great views! That day was one of the highlights of an already epic trip.

I guess this place for last year, a few recce trips and some epic history, also a fairly local one for me. Taking a telescopic ladder and being all cocky until we realised there was a second fence further in just as big :D Happy new year all.
