At the engineering school for veterinary medicine (ISV) "Kurt Neubert" in Beichlingen, engineers for veterinary medicine were trained. In the GDR these were what a veterinarian was in West Germany.
Veterinary engineer was a profession in veterinary medicine in the GDR. There were two training institutions in Beichlingen and Rostock in the GDR.
The location in Beichlingen was founded in 1969. The school was equipped with the most modern equipment, so that the training took place at a high level.

The equipment with modern devices is of a high standard. center
450 students can receive a solid education. This is ensured by 30 technical college teachers, including 12 veterinarians, as well as just as many engineers for teaching and research. Another 60 people are employed to look after and secure the technical process

After 21 years the school was closed in The reason was the reunification, because in the Federal Republic of Germany there was no job description of an engineer for veterinary medicine.
For the more than 2,200 veterinary engineers who completed their training in Beichlingen alone, recognition as a university degree (FH predecessor institutions) was only achieved in 1994. It was not until three years later that the graduates were able to obtain the academic degree of Dipl-Ing. (FH) attain.

To this day, the interest group for veterinary engineers is trying to obtain a veterinary license.
