In a dramatic turn of events, it seems its actually quite possible to get seriously hurt in this hobby;

I'd not heard of this place, but it seems less likely a lot of others will do not;

The site has since been boarded up and fencing was installed in 2017 after a camp was set up in its grounds by a group of homeless people.

Although it does seem on this occasion that the local authority got the info from his blog, rather than him going to them,

Well, yeah. The same as you can get seriously hurt crossing a road, going down the stairs at home, making a cup of tea, or by going to work. We're not going to stop doing any of those things though, like everything in life it's a case of identifying and managing the risks involved. Maybe some people, kids especially, wont properly identify those risks, but for more urban explorers it's all part and parcel of what we do. Safety is always in our minds, in order to mitigate those risks as much as possible.
