Limestone Mine E5.7, Scotland - Dec 2013

Early morning start to visit this lovely wee mine, for once access was very easy, parked a short distance away, no steep climbs to get into it, perfect for a Sunday!

Very little information on this mine has been found so far, but it was working before 1868 and was still in production in 1877, but seems to have shut down shortly after this date.

The entrance was very handly by a nice ladder, easy peasy

After a few scrambles up some collapses soon arriving at the workings. There was plenty of timber supports and bracings in-situ, most had seen better days though!

Quite a few bits and bobs had been left behind, but no rails or hutches sadly.

There must be good drainage there, I'd expect places like this to be half submerged at this time of year. Or its on high ground.

All shots do look bone dry and indicates above the water table Barracuda or could be hard non porous rock but doubt that ?

I need some more underground in my life next year

I've been in mines on top of large hills and been balls deep in water, and in low lying mines and they have been bone dry. All depends on the water table levels.
