History:
Located somewhere in a small town on the Italian countryside lays this former mental institution. Containing over 8 buildings in total this institute was a complete complex on itself. It even contained a power station generating electricity and heat for the facility. One building in particular is the most interesting though and that is the main building. The main building was constructed in the begin of the 1800s as an ordinary hospital, the function was changed later though into a military hospital. At the end of the 1800s the hospital was chosen by the district to house the mentally insane. During the years of operating the facility was expanded heavily to house the growing population of patients. Despite it being a really pretty building it was also notorious for being terrible. Many patients were stored here until they died and it was known for the harsh treatments. These treatments included; lobotomy's, electroshock therapy and experiments to the nervous system.

The situation got better after WW2, this was due that many new medicine was introduced to cure many mental disorders. This also meant that the populating within the facility could decrease. In the 80s the hospital finally closed its doors.

It really is a thing of beauty. Worth checking out the morgue as well at the opposite end of the site.
