The Horse and Groom a two storey flint faced building which until recent years operated as the Horse and Groom Public House. The road was created a turnpike road in 1720 and the inn was built in the late C18 as a stopping point on the Stevenage- Royston route. The property ceased trading some 6+ years ago and the building is in a deteriorating condition. It is prominent in the vistas due to its location adjacent to the road. since its opening it has had load of owners i managed to track a few down on the local records and directories: 1869-Mrs Anderson 1879-J Anderson 1883-Jeremiah Anderson 1892-J Anderson 1896-J Anderson 1904-Herbert Ryland 1916-Samuel Winter last owner is Stuart Findlay (from local news paper 2010) If approved his plan for the site would see a new Ibis hotel built back from the road and would also incorporate a large car park, conference rooms and a restaurant. This is the third time Mr Findlay has tried to build a hotel on the site with the district council blocking previous efforts in 2006 and 2007 to develop the pub which has sat empty for more than six years. Erection of 60 bed hotel Refusal 22 December 2006 Erection of 26 bed hotel Refusal 5 December 2007 Erection of restaurant building with ancillary accommodation following demolition of existing PH.Approval 8 July 2009 However , permission for a restaurant was granted in 2009 but the businessman wants to build a hotel and feels there is a need in Crow country. *(sorry for spelling mistakes I'm dyslexic)* like the police really care what a graff writer thinks =) lost bear i think i will pass on the offer
I was down south for a few days doing family stuff and this is 5 mins from my mums house-it would have been rude not to stop and have a peak. It has been empty for years and keeps getting planning permission declined for one reason or another-probably due to its close proximity to the dual carriageway and having to change access. Solo explore this one. Didnt do the cellars as no torch but you can see that on the report on DP by UE-OMJ: http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/sh ... THvyaU9nOU Nothing mind blowing but a nice mellow mooch if youre in the area-just be careful of the floor boards upstairs. My pictures... and the view out back window into the lorry park.... thanks
