The (now well-known) castle dates from the 17th century, recent modifications / alterations were made in the 19th century. It is difficult to describe it. An overload of visual impressions ... It should be turned into a luxury hotel. Afternoon all, Another place visited on our last day in September which was a familiar spot on many peoples list is Non Plus Ultra. This castle owes it's current decor due to the work of one man who renovated and expanded the building during the 19th century. Its a bit of an overload on the senses with all the decor and the colours, more or less empty besides some beds and bits upstairs but was a nice few hours. The building can be traced back to the Roman periods. It is reported that in 780 Charlemagne could have passed by the place on his way back from Rome, where he went to have his son baptized by the Pope. In the 1970â€™s from the 20th century the castle was transformed into a hotel, only to close its doors in the 1990â€™s. The castle remains unused to this day. The castle is built in different styles; including Moorish and Indian. It has 365 rooms and every room has a different theme. I still got a lot of process but this is pretty much the jist of what I want to add to this report. On with some photos. I visited this place three times in 2012, twice in the summer and once in the winter. All I can say that no one picture can really do justice to the place. Just being there is a jaw-dropping experience. It is definitely one of the top explores I have done so far. Researching the place, I found that building started in the 17th century. IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve read that a major hotel chain are going to turn it into a luxury resort starting in 2011, but there were no sign there when I visited. My guess is the recession in Italy and the Euro crisis is impacting development. A part of me is glad as I got to see parts of it but also if itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s a hotel theyÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ll preserve this beauty.
