Mix of Belgian Leisure etc, March 2013

Recommended Posts

Finally sorting out these pics from Belgium to post on here sorted into neat little groups, all from my mega explore week back in March which proved to be a very snowy affair indeed

Here is an assortment of public/leisure buildings that don't deserve their own threads from various points on the trip.

Bowling Mill

There is a funny story attached to this place from our trip, when we did Villa Wallfahrt before here we bumped into a trio of explorers inside, they left about 10 minutes before we headed here - and while driving past here on the way to Atelier Decor we suddenly spotted three guys standing outside waving tripods at us, it turned out to be the same group we had seen in Wallfahrt! Small world is Belgium, very small :P

This is a dreadfully difficult place to photograph, the inside is pretty dark in most areas and there are lots of mirror panels throughout which makes light painting a bitch!

Chateau l'Ecole

A pair of chateaus that in later life were a first/primary school, one has already been 90% renovated and we caught this one just in time as now there is full scale work going on. Stripped inside with not much to see but was worth a look as it was close to our hotel.

Theatre Jeusette

This was a backup after the sudden arrival of epic snowstorms forced us to abandon our plans for HF6, we rocked up with no idea on access but got a lucky break despite the snow, an impressive theatre but a shame all the seats have been stacked up in a side room....

Henri Jaspar Institute

A former boys home, a backup of backups after a series of fails. The most depressingly ruined place on the road trip, but the snow covered rooftop balcony with no safety rails was a laugh at least and it was a nice peaceful wander.

This was the second stop off on a road trip with @CuriousityKilledTheCat, @Biebs and a non OS member.
We met up @stoozie there (massive thanks for the tour  )
After navigating through a maze of underground pipes we were finally greeted with the pools, and what a site it was!

this place was amazing, complete with a massive diving section.

      Cheers for looking!

3 locations which I thought didn't really warrant a report of their own, so I thought I'd bung em together in here... 1st up...

(or... The Window Access Of Death Empty Turbine Hall
)As the name would suggest, a bit of a pisser to get into! Spent longer on access than shooting the place!

Next up... An old mine, I think?? Unfortunately we were a bit late on this one and renovation work was well underway! Scaffold, tools and fencing all over the shop! And some parts freshly sealed! Still very photogenic, lots of symmetry, amazing ceiling...

      And finally...

      ...Chateau Honore...

Well, that's it for now... Thanks for lookin' in

Greetings OS, me again. Just got back from an ace tour with AndyK, Kriegaffe and a non-member. We also met up with Vals Darkroom for the weekend (Nice to meet you
) We visited some sweet locations and although this one has been a bit trashed it's still a nice place with a fair bit to offer Not a lot of history here but it seems as though this theatre was part of a complex of leisure facilities as there are a few other bits connected to it like a gym which has been bricked off from the theatre now.Enjoy:

This has defo been my favourite explore to date! Not only was it my first day time explore but it was my first bust by security. And we thought we had found our first dead body (i was so scared)!!
Everybody didn't get up, but the packed lunch was made so we loaded the car and went. Had a lovely packed lunch by the hotel lake. We mooched over to the main entrance and were in, in no time!
Was too cool this place and we didn't get caught by security until the last roller coaster, he did us a favour really escorted us out through the big blue gates saves squeezing back through the gappy fence..
The theme park opened in 1983 with the themed identity of a a famous legend. The park was home to 26 attractions which included 5 roller coasters and 2 water rides.
In 1995 the park attracted 500,000 visitors but over the years 2005 records show the park only attracted 330,000 visitors. In 2009 the park closed was sold and re-opened but unfortunately did no better, finally closing its gates in 2012.
On 22 October 2001, a park employee was struck by The Gauntlet roller coaster and was killed. The park was fined £40,000 as it had no written safety procedures for its staff.
On 23 August 2011, a 12 year old boy fell from the Excalibur 2 ride. He survived.
Story Homes has submitted a planning application for up to 450 new homes on the old theme park!!!!!!!!!!!!

      thanks for looking guys
