Anything worth exploring down St Ives, Cornwall way??

Recommended Posts

When I'm in Wales I'm free for the whole weekend so I'll just drive around the back roads and mountain roads, looking for old tracks to venture up or places to visit in the future...But I'm not going to have this much free time in Cornwall, it's mainly a holiday...but come 11pm when everyone's asleep my plan is to go exploring.

Any pointers or possible locations to explore, not too far from St Ives, an hour-ish maybe, would be appreciated. I'm not going until next weekend, 20th, but I'm not sure of the next time I'll be making the 5+ hour journey from where I live in Northampton, so I want to make the most of the holiday. I've only just booked it so I have just under 2 weeks to scour Google maps and try to find some sites, but any help would be great.

Cheers

Actually mate, just did a quick search and found Predannack Airfield, some abandoned choppers and planes there, looks pretty decent and not too far from St Ives either. Bring us some pictures please :D

Well....I failed miserably...turns out that trying to access an old airport owned by the Navy and not far from an RAF base/airport in the middle of the night is not a very good idea!!!!!

At least I know how to access it in daylight now, for whenever next time is....part of me wants to make the journey again just to get some pics. Plenty of other derelict buildings down that way. If anyone is up for making the journey in the future I'm in, plus will save on fuel costs.

In this video we are exploring an abandoned asylum which opened in 1930 and closed in 1997.

I hope you liked the video!

This video is the first of my new series #bygonepubs where Il be documenting the steady decline of these wonderful gathering holes as the corporations' franchises and chains etc increase their stamp on society.

I've had wonderful feedback from many people since posting this video on "cough cough" Facebook, who've told me many wonderful stories about the place before it was lost to economic decline thank's to the powers that be.

I believe the place closed in 2010 ish and was once a popular watering hole for many a denizen. From parties to football to darts and karaoke the place once bustled with the familiar tone's of friendship and alcoholism "Swigs his Guinness".
You can almost hear the faint echoes of the past in places like these so I'd like to share my documentation of the place in a video format as I did not get many pics.

      Thanks for any feedback guys.

We are just that face in the crowd watching as the high streets dwindle and the corporations take over.
