This report is a little overdue but better late than never 
Kellingley has been a brilliant place to poke around in since it closed and the fact that its 10 minutes away from my house is a bonus but no matter how much of a laugh has been had whilst visiting here I couldn't help but feel a little down that this was the end of a era for the area, everyone who lives around here knows someone who has done a shift or two down t'pit and as of December 2015 all that was history.
Kellingley was one of the later collieries to be constructed in Yorkshire, many local pits such as Prince of Wales, Glasshoughton, Ledstone and Allerton had stood since the mid/late 1800's. In fact other than the construction of the Selby Coal Field in the 80's Big K was the most modern colliery set up in the area
On with the pictures as there's a lot to get through
No.1 Headstock
Starting at the bottom of the headstock you come across this rather nice battery locomotive
Relay Stations are located either side of the lifts. Workers sat inside would relay information to the men operating the lifts up in the winding house.
The winding house was brilliant, lots of retro bits and bobs and the colours are fantastic in there
It seems that the workers at Big K had planned to be working into the start of january 2016 but sadly this was not the case
Up at the top of the headstock are the winding motors
Venturing back down to where the workers boarded the lift's is a rather nice looking walkway leading to the bath house
The lamp room was also pretty impressive with the workers names still labeled on each lamp
