Time has stood still in this forgotten behemoth of a chemical plant. Everything has been left in a time capsule state. Nature has taken over and decay has set in. It's as though everybody just got up and left etc etc etc...... All the umbex clichés you can think of apply to this beast of a place in Greece. I'm afraid I don't know much about it other than construction was completed in 1963, and it ceased operations around 2000. Happily spent a whole day wandering around here with @elliot5200. It has control rooms everywhere, and just when you think you've seen everything, there's another building full of epic shit. At first we were a bit apprehensive about the amount of stray dogs barking at us, but we soon made friends with a couple and the rest lost interest. They ended up following us around for the whole day.
It was a risky time to travel overseas due to varying covid restrictions around the world. Whereas the UK was about to go into another lockdown, Athens had fairly chilled restrictions when we arrived. That soon changed however, and my worst nightmare was about to happen - all restaurants were being forced to close....
Luckily Greece had different restrictions for each area of the country, so we just moved from one place to another, stuffing our faces and avoiding the red zones all the way. That worked well until the last day, when the whole country went into a nationwide lockdown. At this point all we had to do was get to the airport, but there were police checkpoints everywhere stopping vehicles, and we weren't sure whether travelling back from a week of derping was a valid excuse for being out and about. Thankfully we didn't get stopped, so we didn't get to find out! Travelling abroad was a big no no for a long time after this so we couldn't have timed it any better. Anyway, onto the pictures. I've tried to narrow it down as best I can but the place is absolutely colossal, and I'm pretty sure we didn't see all of it.
