In 1960 a brown coal power plant was built here. There were a total of 12 power plant blocks that were supplied with brown coal from the surrounding opencast mining areas. In addition to generating energy, the waste heat was used to supply the place with district heating and the cooling water for carp farming. Around 5,000 people were employed here and the power plant had an output of 1,200 megawatts.
It was shut down in 1996 and the power plant was gradually dismantled.
There is now an industrial and technology park on the power plant site.
