Grayshott Manor Spa, once one of the UK’s leading health retreats, closed its doors permanently in December 2020. After more than 50 years of operation, the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic proved insurmountable. Repeated lockdowns, the uncertainty of future trade, and the sharp decline in international visitors left the business unable to continue. Its closure marked the end of a long era for a site that had built an international reputation for luxury and wellness.
The manor itself has a far older history. Originally a grand country estate in Surrey, Grayshott was converted into a health spa in the mid-20th century, offering a blend of medical treatments, fitness facilities, and restorative therapies. Over the decades, it became renowned for its holistic approach to wellbeing, attracting guests from across the world. For more than half a century, the spa was a fixture in the region, combining traditional English manor-house charm with modern health and leisure facilities.
Since the closure, the future of the property has been uncertain. The site was put up for sale, with redevelopment plans under consideration. While no confirmed scheme has yet been finalised, the scale and character of the estate make it a strong candidate for transformation, potentially into residential housing, leisure facilities, or a mixed-use development. Whatever direction is chosen, any new chapter will inevitably build on the rich history of a site that once stood as a leader in health and spa culture.
