Greffyn Mine
Havent posted a mine for a while so heres a nice little un reported place from a few years back.
Not a lot of individual information available as this is one of many dozen mines in the Gwydyr.
The Mine did consists of a series of gated levels up the hillside behind the Aberllyn mill. Workings were on 5 levels.
The top, westerly workings are the Pen-yr-allt workings working the E-W Penyrallt Lode and were originally independent.
The lower Griffin workings on two Nw_SE lodes are on the site of the old 1860s Cwmlanerch Mine, and are not connected to the Griffin workings higher up the hill.
Explored this one with the usual suspect @Down and beyond who is undisputedly one of the leading modern day minds of the Gwydyr area.
The shaft was previously undocumented so we decided a simple SRT pitch would drop us in.
descending the main shaft we were forced to deviate under the shaft through a mini waterfall & was presented with a small oval opening through the top of a main level where we could view some tram lines still in place.
Dropping through (or rather re ascending through) said void proved to be the most challenging bit of rope work I had done at the time.
Being stuck half way through the hole for 10 min or so taught me a lot about staying calm & self control.
So was it worth it? well all that remains is quite a short level, mainly flooded with a fair bit of old duct work, it was quite a pretty place nevertheless.
Finally it was back up the hole!
Short one for me, thanks for looking
