This was the first stop on a productive trip to Italy with @Gigi a few years ago. Is there such a thing as a non-productive trip to Italy? Certainly doesn't seem like it. We arrived quite late in the day so it was a rush job getting around it before the light disappeared. Could have easily spent much longer here!
The original structure of the convent dates back to 1463, as recorded on a plaque outside the church. Over the centuries, the building has undergone numerous renovations and expansions. The cloister dates back to the 17th century, and the church was renovated in 1751, as recorded on the same plaque. The complex was later used as a seminary. After the last modification, which included the addition of a gymnasium and printing press in the 1960s, the complex was gradually abandoned until it was closed and left unattended in 1994.
