History
With a growing rate of mental health issues and facilities not being adequate enough facilities, too expensive or unable to house those in need it was clear a new asylum was in need of construction. The surrey magistrates, encouraged by the Asylums Act Of 1808, established a new facility on Springfield Park with construction beginning in 1838. Opening in 1841, 299 patients were admitted to the now Surrey County Pauper Lunatic Asylum with multiple 2 to 4 storey pavilions flanking a large courtyard. With an almost instant need to expand a smaller cottage hospital opened in 1872 and new facilities such as an operating theatre were added in 1881. 1897 saw the addition of an annex for around 20 handicapped children later becoming the administration block.
The next hundred years saw admissions grow and new treatments allowed patients to divided up for their separate needs.
Following the 1960s admissions fell and by today the original building sits dormant with new buildings operating as the hospital.
The plans for this main building are for its re-purposing into new housing as well as a new inpatients unit.

I couldn't find any exact dates for when certain areas closed but the whole building has been vacant since last year.

With the @ Excursionists, a non-member and @ Urbandoned on a lengthy trip down south we met up with them for their day in London. After a quick visit to a church and getting busted we headed here. As it was a weekday we noticed a lot of builders working away so we left and came back after they packed up and pulled up in the car park. Two of us went ahead whist the rest sat in our cars waiting, shortly after we could hear a faint siren but though nothing of it until we were sent a rather humorous video of them two inside with it blaring. This didn't seem to do much as half hour later the siren stopped and we got ready to head inside.
Eventually an hour passed and we had got inside although we were limited in the areas we could nose around due to sensors.
Unfortunately due to the time an weather lighting was limited so photos aren't perfect.
Eventually, the light faded and we made our way to the admin block. Which didn't last long as the orchestra of alarms began once again.
Anyway, we left satisfied we had at least got in after 3 attempts.
