The Deutsche Bundesbahn procured 20 motor cars, 13 control cars and 22 intermediate cars from the VT-08. It was used together with non-powered intermediate and control car sets as a three-part, later also a four-part, diesel express multiple unit.
From this combination, the railway is called 14 multiple units.

From 1962 all wagons were in VT12 in order to be used as Umverkehszug. Whereby the different models VT125 and the converted ones as VT126 refer. These were the series 612 and 613.
The power of a motor vehicle is 1000 HP (735 kW), the top speed 140 km / h.

The motor vehicles were taken over by MAN and had a 12 cylinder engine. Either a Maybach MD 650 (identification: MTU 12V 538), a Daimler-Benz MB 820 Bb
(MTU MB 12 V 493 TZ) or a MAN L12 V 17.5 / 21B. The MAN engine was not installed relatively early on, and later only the Daimler engine was used.
The Donauwörth and Rathgeber companies built the intermediate and control cars.
The last of these rights was granted in 1985.

The series representation, which was the world champion in 1954, became known with its from Switzerland and a tour through Germany. This is the only surviving train in the series.

The last surviving VT 085 became known as the “world championship train” from the feature film The Miracle of Bern. For the film, based on the historical model, it was labeled “FOOTBALL WORLD CHAMPION 1954”. The train with the motor car 613 603 or 613 620, the intermediate car 913 510 and 913 512 and the control car 913 603. The train will be coupled to the second powered end car or the control car. This multiple unit is owned by rail trainee as class 688.

This copy was provided until 2007 (when the TÜV expired and was not renewed) and has been on a siding since 2011 and is rotting away.

This is not the original. Fritz Walter, Helmut Rahn and Toni Tureck never heard this train. Sönke Wortmann led him in 2002 for the shooting of “The Miracle of Bern”. A restoration today means a cost of EUR 3-4 million.
